Description

MAIN PURPOSE
The main purpose of this position is to formulate quotations and tenders related to all power generation products (diesel, gas etc), services and technologies which the company part takes in. This will comprise of single standalone units to full turnkey power plants.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Ensure that tenders and quotations meet the company and the customer's commercial terms and conditions.
- Assist external and internal customers with technical queries.
- Conduct site inspections if required as part of the tender process and gather all necessary information needed to compile an accurate quotation / tender document.
- Ensure the conversion of tenders and proposals into projects and contracts is achieved.
- Generate business from new and existing customers.

Proposals / Sales:

- Responsible for tender documents and quotations within the organization. This will include costing schedules.
- Review customer specifications to ensure compliance (commercially and technically).
- Gather and compile all returnable documentation and attachments required as part of the tender submission.
- Perform electrical and mechanical calculations as required.
- Perform cost calculations to determine project margins and selling price.
- Liaise with customers, branches and business units with regards to related tenders/quotations.
- Formulate the best possible solution to meet customer requirements.
- Ensure all technical literature included as part of the tender document is the most relevant and up to date information.
- Obtain the latest prices for costing purposes regularly from all the group companies / organization's and preferred suppliers.
- Assist the Business Development team with technical clarifications and evaluate design complexity for costing purposes.
- Review and interpret SLD (Single Line Diagrams) for costing purposes.
- Summarize tenders for ease of evaluation.
- Liaise with the internal engineering departments of the company or various international supplier organisations to streamline the proposals engineering the company Group companies and departments as well as the Group's preferred suppliers.
- Maintain and keep the quote register up to date where direct responsibility has been taken for the preparation and submission of tenders
- Compile weekly reports indicating the status of all proposals in progress.
- Provide feedback of all proposals submitted on a weekly basis.
- Prepare pricing for products and services for the sales department by: Planning, studying and collecting data to determine the cost of goods or service provided, taking into account a range of fixed and variable cost, and allocating it to the products and services delivered based on, the agreed cost allocation principals.
- Update database with costing tables to enable the estimation of costs (for tender purposes).
- Calculate selling prices using the agreed mark up.

Sales Support and customer Liaison:

- Assist in aggressively penetrating the market and support the generation of new business for the division.
- Provide technical support to customers and within the Group departments and divisions.
- Meet with customers and assist them to clarify enquiry specifications as well as to accurately define the scope of works requirements.
- Follow-up with clients on the status / success of tenders/quotations submitted and part take in pre-order negotiations.
- Responsible to do product launches and exhibit trade shows.
- Conduct presentations to customers in order to explain and discuss the solutions developed.
- Build and maintain customer relationships and generate new business.
- Partake in pre-order clarifications and negotiations.
- Maintain a database of costs for the various types of cost centres and comparing the total costs of the final product or services to market prices in the industry.
- Conduct analysis on budgeted vs actual costs incurred and provide feedback to senior management.
- Prepare reports showing total cost, selling prices and profit rates for project and executive managers.

Other:

- Continuously improve internal systems and procedures.
- Product training (internally & externally).
- Monitor engineering developments and new projects within the engineering and energy sectors.

Q
UALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

- Matric with a recognized and relevant technical qualification (Typical S4 or N6. Electrical or Mechanical Engineering).
- At least 3-5 years' work experience in the diesel generators industry, with experience in a similar position being preferred.
- Computer Literacy - Microsoft Office and MS Projects.
- CAD experience will be an advantage.

- A legal driver licence.
- Must be able to read, write, speak and understand the English language.
- Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely, orally and in writing, including formal communications and making presentations.
- Must possess the ability to make independent decisions when circumstances warrant.

- Willingness and freedom to travel, when needed, including overnight stays away from home base.

- Must have the ability to work with manufacturing terminology, as well as to numerate content for pricing and invoicing.

WORKING CONDITIONS

- Predominantly office based.
- Out of office errands from time to time.
- Required to work beyond normal working hours, evenings, weekends and holidays should the need arise.
