  • National Diploma / Degree in Safety Management (NQF Level 7)
  • Chamber of Mines Safety Officer Certificate 1 and 2
  • Knowledge of OHSAS 18001
  • AA plc Safety Course: A3
  • Diploma / Degree in Mining Engineering or a related field advantageous

Experience & Knowledge:

  • Extensive experience in health and safety as a Safety officer essential
  • Experience in engineering, mining or metallurgy would be advantageous
  • In depth understanding of relevant safety and mining legislation including: The Mine Health and Safety Act, Minerals Regulations, Occupational Diseases Act, Workman’s Compensation Act
  • Knowledge of gas testing, flame proofing, strata control
  • Knowledge of applicable Coal South Africa Safety programme, standards and frameworks
  • Good understanding of safety management theory, behavioural safety and risk management framework, procedures and systems
  • In depth knowledge of the Fatal Risk standards and golden rules
  • Extensive knowledge in the mining industry
  • Must have a valid South African Driver’s licence
