Successful Launch of MOGA on 13th of August 2014

Hello MOGA community!

What an amazing launch we had on the 13th of August 2014! A sincere thank you to all honourable guests and a special thanks to our esteemed Minister Alan Winde (MEC of Economic Opportunities) who was the keynote at our event!

We are very proud that the MOGA launch received acknowledgement in the article: SA needs more young artisans, published in the Cape Times on 14th of August 2014

“We celebrate this, but it is a very, very small number. It is a start, but we’ve got to ramp things up. The National Development Plan says we need 30 000 trained artisans a year in South Africa. There are probably only 10 000 a year. This shows the massive gap we’ve got. If we don’t change the maths and science coming in, we won’t change the skills gap.”

says Minister Alan Winde, MEC of Economic Opportunities

In addition to luanching the MOGA website, SAOGA also used the opportunity to acknowledge the amazing contribution of industry in the DEDAT (Department of Economic Development and Tourism) funded Artisan Development Programme (ADP). Just over 50 companies have opened their doors to host the learners enrolled in the ADP. This is an essential aspect of the programme, as hosting a learner provides them with essential experiential learning over a period of 18 months. This part of the programme prepares the learner for the trade test and subsequent trade certification.
